Zumba

What is Zumba?

Zumba is a Latin inspired, dance fitness class that incorporates Latin and international music and dance moves, creating a dynamic, exciting, echilarating, and effective fitness system. A Zumba class combines fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body using an aerobic/fitness approach to achieve a unique blended balance of cardio and muscle-toning benifits.

The Zumba program integrates some of the basic principles of aerobic, interval, and resistance training to maximize caloric output, cardiovascular benefits, and total body toning. The cardio-based dance movemnts are easy to follow steps that include body sculpting, which targets areas such as gluteus, legs, arms, and core abdominals.

Dancers and non dancers alike immediately and easily master a Zumba class because previous dance experience is not necessary. A Zumba class creates  a party like atmosphere that provides a non-intimidating opportunity for non-dancers, new exercisers, or those who have previously hesitated to join in group classes.

Some of the rhythims you can expect in class are:
  • merengue
  • reggaeton
  • cumbia
  • bachata
  • samba
  • axe
  • tango
  • flamenco
  • belly dance
  • salsa
  • quebradita
  • cha cha cha
  • and more!

  • What if I can't dance?
    • No dance skill required. Zumba is specifically designed to be easy to follow.  If you get lost or confused, it's OK as long as you are moving you are doing great!

  • What should I wear?
    • Wear something that you can move in and that is breathable.

  • What kind of shoes should I wear?
    • You absolutely must wear sneakers. Zumba Fitness recommends that you wear "cross training" or "aerobic" style shoes. They provide the cushion and medial lateral support needed for side-to-side movements. They also have low traction rubber for easy sliding and turning. Please be careful with "running shoes" since they use a heavy tread on the bottom and are designed for forward movement.

  • Should I bring anything else?
    • A bottle of water, a hand towel, and your smile.

  • How many calories can I burn?
    • The number of calories each person burns per class varies. However, depending on your body parameters (type, composition, intensity, range of motion), you can burn hundreds of calories per class.

What is Zumba Toning?

When it comes to body sculpting, Zumba Toning raises the bar (or rather, the toning stick). It combines targeted body-sculpting excerses and high-energy cardio work with Latin-infused Zumba moves to creat a calorie-torching, strength-training dance fitness-party. Students learn how to use lightweight, maraca-like Toning Sticks to enhance rhythm and tone all their target zones, including arms, abs and thighs. Zumba Toning is the perfect way for enthusiasts to sculpt their bodies naturally while having a total blast.

  • Toning sticks: If you need to purchase toning sticks (highly recommended), please contact me. You may use a 1-3 lb. weight but if you use hand weights you MAY NOT shake them - this is for your own safety and injury prevention.
  • What do I need to bring to Zumba Toning?    You don't need to bring anything just a bottle of water and a sweat towel! if you have Zumba toning sticks bring them! if it's your first class you can opt to do the class with out weights or borrow some toning sticks from me!
  •    What about Zumba Toning Sticks? Two different sets are available. 1 lb. toning sticks are $20, and 2.5 lb. toning sticks are $25. I suggest that you take class with a 1 or 2 lb. weight first. Once you have acquired good form and are sure you need more of a challenge, talk to me about the 2.5 lb. sticks.
  • What is the difference between Zumba Fitness and Zumba Toning? Zumba Fitness is mostly a cardiovascular class with some toning, but Zumba Toning is a muscular endurance plus cardiovascular class which can blast many more calories and challenge your body in new ways. The Zumba Toning party is different than that of regular Zumba Fitness classes, but you will definitely feel the burn!
